Our Story

At Take a Step, we are a passionate father-daughter duo dedicated to transforming lives through education and nourishment. My journey began when I, Jillian, fell in love with Kenya during my first volunteer experience at age 19, where I witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by students in underserved communities. Inspired by the resilience and potential of these children, I returned home with a strong desire to make a difference. Two years later, I invited my father to join me on this mission, and together we established this nonprofit to help students access daily meals and essential school supplies.

We firmly believe that education is a powerful tool for empowerment, which is why we also focus on teaching real-life skills, such as motorcycle repair. This practical training not only equips students with valuable knowledge but also opens doors to sustainable futures and self-sufficiency. Our commitment to these initiatives stems from a deep-rooted belief in the potential of the next generation. Join us in making a difference, as we work together to create a brighter future for these remarkable young individuals.

Our Mission

Take a Step is deeply committed to transforming the lives of students in Kenya by ensuring they receive daily meals and essential life skills that will benefit them for years to come. We understand that hunger and lack of resources can hinder a child's ability to learn, so our initiatives are designed to address these critical needs head-on. Our recent projects not only focus on providing nutritious meals to sustain students throughout the day but also emphasize the importance of health and wellness as foundational elements of education.

In addition to our meal program, we are dedicated to equipping young learners with essential life skills that foster independence and self-sufficiency. Our motorcycle repair program, for example, offers hands-on training that empowers students with valuable technical skills, preparing them for future employment opportunities. Through these initiatives, we aim to promote both academic success and holistic development, paving the way for sustainable futures.

As we continue to expand our efforts and reach more students in need, we invite you to join us on this transformative journey.

Together, we can make a lasting impact that empowers the next generation and builds a brighter future for communities in Kenya. Discover how you can contribute to our mission and help us create a world where every child has the opportunity to thrive.
